With a groundbreaking weekly television show on e.tv & eNews that is taking South African by storm, Loyiso Gola celebrated his tenth anniversary in comedy earlier this year with a performance of his new one man show aptly titled LIFE & TIMES. Now an award winning comedian and recognised as one of the most gifted comedians of his generation, this show once again served to confirm the comedic genius of this prodigious talent.
Due to an overwhelming demand, this show returns for one more run in Johannesburg at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on the 11th & 12th of November. This show will also serve to launch his DVD of the same title.
With his sharp wit, unmistakable charm and thought provoking comedy style, Loyiso Gola has been enthralling, mystifying and entertaining audiences for an entire decade. In an intelligently frank but tasteful manner, he has made a living of telling it like it is – a modern day George Carlin with his outspokenness mixed with the street smart of a latter day Chris Rock and the attitude of a young defiant Richard Pryor.
His first one man show – Loyiso Gola for President – enjoyed groundbreaking success, earned him rave reviews and served to announce his arrival as one of the country’s best comedians, (if not one of the most refreshing presidential candidates of our time!). As a result, he went on to win a South African Comedy Award for “Best Breakthrough Comedy Act” that year and was later nominated in the “Best Comedian of the Year Award” category at the Stars of Mzansi Awards.

Since then, Loyiso’s rise in the comedy ranks has been nothing short of meteoric. His illustrious career boasts of performances at all the major comedy events on the local comedy calendar as well as performances in the UK, the US, Dubai, Nigeria, Mauritius and Botswana. During this time he has performed alongside the best the country has to offer as well as shared the stage with some of the best comedians in the world, in the likes of Russell Peters, Paul Rodriguez, Pablo Francisco, Mark Curry, Jim Jefferies, Brandon Burns, Jimmy Carr, Charlie Pickering, Rhod Gilbert, Basketmouth and many others.
He now also has several television and movie credits to his name including being on the unforgettable Pure Monate Show, co-hosting a television show with iconic comedian Pieter Dirk Uys as well as enjoying a cameo on MTV Films’ Bunny Chow. CAPE TOWN COMIC PRESENTS HIS OWN THEORY ON EVOLUTION
Devolution – The Theory Of Stupid
Werner Weber, widely considered one of Cape Town’s best up and coming stand-up comedy acts, is proud to present his début one man show: “Devolution – The Theory Of Stupid”.
This straight talking comedian takes on Darwin’s sacrosanct Theory Of Evolution, focussing on how it applies to Nature’s most magnificent ape, the Human Being. Human evolution or, as Werner sees it the lack thereof, is fertile ground for hilarity, thought-provocation and the odd jibe at his fellow Homo Sapien. He tackles topics such as chivalry, romance, bipolar dogs, seagulls with an attitude and chickens grown in the lab.
He speaks his mind, although not always in his own voice; fusing the voices of several prominent celebrities with his somewhat distorted view of the urban jungle.
Werner will be onstage from the 26th till the 28th of September 2011 at the On Broadway Theatre in Cape Town. Tickets for the comedy show are on sale at Computicket at R70 per ticket.

SOUTH AFRICA, 18 August 2011 – The 2010 World Cup of Funny Trophy holders are back!
They are a team with an unmatched legacy of uniting a nation through laughter and making history in the process. Now, the reigning champions of Funny are back to defend their title!
“Bafunny Bafunny” – South Africa’s star-studded team of comedians was formed in 2010 as an answer during World Cup fever to the question: “What if Comedy was a sport? Who will represent South Africa at the World Cup of Funny?” The resulting team’s tour, both locally and internationally, made not only comedy history, but created comedy heroes with their sold-out performances in front of over 60,000 fans locally.
Now, after months of preparation, they are ready to do it all over again in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup, this time, with their aptly named tour “The Odd Shaped Ball” that will tour Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town this October.
Starring Trevor Noah, Barry Hilton, John Vlismas, Loyiso Gola, Nik Rabinowitz, Mark Banks and newcomers Eugene Khoza and Stuart Taylor – this is one game you have to be at!
Created by Comedy specialists Hunta Live who are no strangers to hosting international comedy heavy-weights in arenas across SA (Chris Rock’s No Apologies Tour to SA, Jeff Dunham) or at their annual Comedy Festivals nationally, their latest offering, Bafunny Bafunny – The Odd Shaped Ball will be the highlight on the comedy calendar.

Mark Banks
Dangerously funny, with an unbeaten streak of over 20 years in comedy, Mark Banks will play a central role in making things easy for the Bafunny Bafunny team. Used to playing in front of packed houses nationwide, the notoriously un-PC coach is one of the most recognised and respected stand-up comedians of his time. Off the field, he is well known for his missionary work among the unlaughing and in his spare time he enjoys poking fun at locals living abroad. The most experienced player in the team.
Nik “Bokkie” Rabinowitz
SA’s top Jewish Xhosa-speaking comic is a master at converting giggles into laughter. Despite his diminutive stature (standing at only five foot eleven), his firepower on any field is legendary. Darting from digression to diversion in the mercurial multi-lingual way that has become his trademark, this award-winning comic from Cape Town has established himself as a firm favourite and remains a player to watch.
Loyiso “Laduuuma” Gola
A crowd favourite, Gola has had millions of viewers glued to his performances in various TV Shows most notably his own special Late Night News. A household name, Loyiso is adored by fans nationwide, not just for his incredible wit and good looks, but for his constantly outstanding performances – he always delivers and is one of the most sought after talents today!
John ‘Die Voël’ Vlismas
Award-winning comedian, John Vlismas is one of South Africa’s most creative, prolific international comics. With a film project being released this year, a solo art exhibition and a new one-man show, ‘Pow!’ he is a force to be reckoned with. The only player to have received more yellow cards than birthday cards – he keeps the crowd on their toes with his comedy antics if he is not doing time in the Sin Bin.
Barry Hilton aka “The Cousin”
“The Cousin” has reached international status as a stand-up comedian and many agree he is one of the top comedians South Africa has ever produced. Performing his original brand of South African humour, his sell-out shows are proof of his popularity among the adoring home crowd. Used to playing all fields with huge success, Hilton is an icon and – as many other comedians may agree – a role model in the industry.
Stuart “Magic” Taylor
This Going Nowhere Slowly star has the uncanny ability to cast spells of unbridled laughter on virtually any audience and has earned him the adoration of critics and fans. Taylor has scooped some amazing reviews and awards, winning the prestigious Overall Best Comedy award at the National Arts Festival and the Show Time award for the best solo performance. Critics describe his work as, “Classy style, laid back super professional presentation”.
Eugene “The Beast” Khoza
Well-known to South African TV audiences as co-host of the sports magazine show Countdown 2010, he is equally recognised for his comic skills. He has tickled the funny bones of diverse audiences around the country with his multilingual delivery and incisive humour that riffs on South Africa’s many cultures. His rise in the comedy world began when he reached the semi-finals of M-Net’s Laugh Out Loud comedy competition and won the Ricoffy Comedy Challenge. He has performed at various festivals around the country and has also successfully sold out his debut one man show KHOZA CAN!

One of the most original and distinctive stars on television, radio and the stage, Jimmy has enjoyed several hugely successful years; this year being no exception.
Jimmy’s first five live DVDs (Jimmy Carr, Stand Up, Comedian, In Concert and Telling Jokes) have now sold well over a million copies in total to date. His all-new stand-up DVD, Making People Laugh was released in November 2010.
In August 2010 Jimmy’s all-new solo show Laughter Therapy debuted at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. Starting just a few days after the close of the marathon Rapier Wit tour, during which Jimmy played to over 300,000 people, by the time it finishes in November 2011, the Laughter Therapy tour, will have been even bigger and delighted audiences up and down the country. Often referred to as ‘the hardest working man in comedy’, Jimmy has so far performed his stand up tour shows to well over one million people in the UK.
Jimmy recently finished filming the tenth series of 8 Out of 10 Cats, the comedy panel show based on polls, surveys and statistics for Channel 4 as well hosting a second series of C4′s Comedy Roasts. In January 2011 Jimmy joined forces with David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Lauren Laverne to host 10 O’Clock Live, a brand new weekly series taking a fresh and funny look at the news and current events. Jimmy’s other recent television appearances include The Graham Norton Show, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? and QI.
A household name in the UK, Jimmy is also a rising star in the US, where his profile continues to grow. Jimmy recently performed a second Comedy Central Special and also appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien – his fifth appearance to date. Jimmy’s game show Distraction aired on Comedy Central and was subsequently repeated. He has also appeared four times on NBC’s flagship programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. With conventional media conquered, Jimmy is also a pioneer of digital comedy, topping the album charts on iTunes and with a Twitter following of over half a million. He was the first major comedian to perform within the online world of Second Life, and the results can be seen as an extra on the Comedian DVD. In 2009, Jimmy recorded a series of podcasts, entitled The Writers’ Room, in which he and his favourite writer friends chat about the latest news and events, exchanging anecdotes and quips, offering an insight into how comedy material can develop within a writing environment. The podcast proved a smash hit, shooting straight to the top of the iTunes download chart. In November 2010 he performed a live interview which was recorded for iTunes at the flagship Apple shop on Regent Street.

Known for his trade mark hat, funky urban stylish look and brilliant impersonation of the Madiba Jive, Ndumiso Lindi is regarded as one of South Africa’s top black comedians.
