Mum-z BIO

Born in Diepkloof Soweto, raised in Sandton and now residing in Cape Town, Mum-z has grown from an 11 year old TV presenter on Kids Can, award winning script writer at age 17 and UCT Radio Freestyle champion at age 21, to becoming one of South Africa’s top up and coming comedians at the age of 25.  His style of comedy can be universally appreciated. His vivid imagination and uncanny story telling ability, combined with his unique use of accents and facial expressions has allowed him to provide audiences with a unique and original style of comedy, drawing most of his content from his personal experiences. His career started with presenting on the SABC 2 teenage continuity programme ‘Kidz Can’ in 1997, he then delved in script writing where he co-wrote the 2003 Best Original Script at the Wits Raps Drama Festival – The Pink Flamingo. At UCT he was the 2004 UCT Radio Freestyle champion (undefeated) and in 2007 he was a Yfm Comedy Battle Champion.

His love for theatre allowed him to perform in many productions including his fantastic performance as Demetrius in the Shakespeare comedy ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2007 and he acted in the Learning Channel educational programme Study Slams. His vast experience in the entertainment industry allowed for him to successful join the comedy scene, performing all over Gauteng, Western Cape, Polokwane and KZN.

His move to Cape Town has been welcomed by both the industry and the public as he runs one of Cape Town’s youngest but successful comedy evening at the Purple Turtle every Tuesday as well as comedy nights at Saronsberg Theatre in Tulbagh. His exposure to Cape Town has allowed for his material to become more three-dimensional.

He has performed at the following events:

-    David Kau’s Blacks Only comedy bill, four times
-    The Real Heavyweight Comedy Jam twice
-    Winner of the 2010 Graca Cape Town Comedy Showdown
-    2010 Nandos International Comedy Festival (CPT)
-    2009 Rocking the Daisies Comedy Festival
-    2007 Arts Alive Festival (JHB)
-    2007 Soweto Comedy Festival (SWT)
-    2010 Synergy Music Festival – Hosted the comedy tent (CPT)
-    2010 / 2011 Giggle Gaggle Tulbagh Comedy Festival (which he runs)
-    His highlight since moving to Cape Town was hosting the prestigious 2010 South African Blog Awards and having only been in Cape Town for a year, he has already introduced himself to the public as a young up-coming comedian who entertains and connects with his audiences on a very original and fresh manner.
