All you Funny Bones fans may remember Mpho “Popps” Modikoane and Deep Fried Man, who have both performed at the Purple Turtle. You will remember Popps from his black suicide bomber gag and Deep Fried was the musical mater mind who enthralled with his comedic lyrics and versatile guitar skills. These two young acts are making waves in Jozi, so you should check them out at the Globe Theatre. Check out the press release below…

Audiences at The Globe Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino are in for Loads of Laughs (LOL), a brand new production with a hilarious blend of comedy and music.

LOL focuses on the misadventures of two first-year university students with very different personalities and cultural backgrounds. The differences in their cultures and outlook are revealed in rib-tickling musical parodies.

Headlining the production will be local comedians Deep Fried Man and  Mpho “Popps” Modikoane. Deep Fried Man was declared joint winner of the 2010 Parkers Comedy Showdown, which led to a performance at the UN Comedy Show with Pablo Francisco and many other top local and international comedians. He has performed a full-length, once-off one man show for the Wits Drama for Life Festival, opened for Trevor Noah in Scratch That at the Joburg Theatre and played the Heavyweight Comedy Jam, the Tshwane Comedy Fest and UJ’s One Night Stand to name a few. He is a nominee in the “Best Newcomer” category of the first annual Comics Choice Awards, 2011.

In 2007 “Popps” debuted on local TV show So You Think You’re Funny, where he was first noticed by the general public. He then went on to the club circuit in Johannesburg where he shared the stage with some of the big names in the industry such as Trevor Noah and Marc Lottering. Mpho went on to star in Blacks Only, with David Kau and Chris Forrest, as well as The Just Because Comedy Festival. One of his biggest career highlights to date was his nomination for the first annual Comics Choice Awards, for “Best Newcomer” in 2010.

The show uses subjects such as initiation, bad advice, girls, and partying as fertile grounds for its mischievous humour. The pair will be supported by four talented dancers who will add some flair and pizzazz to the production.

LOL will also feature a different guest comedian each week, who will bring one of the duo’s quirky relatives or friends to life.

The show runs every Friday at 20:30, Saturday at 19:00 and 21:00 and Sundays at 14:00 until 15 May. Tickets are priced at R55 and are available through at the Gold Reef City Casino Box Office on 011 248 5000 or Computicket.
