It’s that time in history when Vuvuzela manufacturers are making a small fortune, side mirror flags are being stolen and resold, the “ladies of the night” are converting more corners – excuse the pun (As Anne Hirsch likes to say), the streets are littered with football fans from all over and all eyes are on Mum-z Mzanzi.
There was a lot of negativity before pre-2010 with people referring to the Bafana Bafana players as virgins (because they have never scored) and that their chances of getting far in the cup are very far from reality. However, after South Africa beat Zimbabwe 3-0 (which may have been SA’s way of saying “That’s what you get when you jump over our borders”) and SA beat Swaziland 6-2 (who also jump our borders, but I think the team gave them 2 goals because at least when they jump over our borders they bring “medicinal products” with them), South Africa’s performance built up to them defeating Guatemala 5-0 and beating Denmark 1-0.
The soccer buzz is growing in Cape Town and after buying my ticket today for the Netherlands vs. Cameroon game, I am all systems go. (If you’re also going to the game, click on this FACEBOOK group link to see others who are attending and click on this link to see more info about the game, courtesy of Two Zero 10 – The best World Cup site).
So with all this soccer hype, it is only fitting that someone produced a show that could make a meal out of the comedy surrounding the soccer - Bafunny Bafunny. I can only expect good things from a show that has 8 of SA’s hottest comedians, some fantastic sponsors like Loaded Smoothies™ and M-net and top class promoter Hunt Alive. BAFUNNY BAFUNNY: THE VICTORY TOUR
A HUNTA LIVE PRODUCTION
They’re back!
After conquering the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London where they made comedy history in front of thousands of cheering fans, SA’s star-studded Comedy Team Bafunny Bafunny returned home to a hero’s welcome with more than 30,000 fans filling each and every seat available for their home tour in arenas across the Host Country.
With their SA tour now a “sold out” runaway success, the producers at Hunta Live have decided to celebrate their achievement with a Victory Tour that will give comedy fans another chance to see their heroes perform live on one stage at the new fixtures.
The Bafunny Bafunny – Victory Tour will once again see players like Marc Lottering, Barry Hilton and Nik Rabinowitz perform their killer routines in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban from the 30th of June to the 9th of July.
“The response from fans has been overwhelming and we are extremely pleased with the results. The demand for tickets has left us with no other option but to open additional dates, hence the revival of the show in the form of a ‘Victory Tour’,” says creator Sam Hendrikse from Hunta Live.
Bafunny Bafunny is another creation of Comedy specialists Hunta Live (Jeff Dunham, Chris Rock’s No Apologies Tour to SA, Wayne Brady’s Making it Up SA Tour and The International Nando’s Comedy Festivals) and “The Victory Tour” is proudly brought to you by MTN and M-Net.

Meet the Bafunny Bafunny Team:
Coach, Mark Banks, also known as Markos Santanos Bankos
Dangerously funny, with an unbeaten streak of over 18 years in comedy, Mark Banks will play a central role in making things easy for the Bafunny Bafunny team. Used to playing in front of packed houses nationwide, the notoriously un-PC coach is one of the most recognised and respected stand-up comedians of his time. He represented South Africa at the 1996 ‘Just For Laughs Comedy Festival’ in Montreal and regularly stages one-man hit shows. Off the field, he is well known for his missionary work among the unlaughing and in his spare time he enjoys poking fun at locals living abroad.
The Captain, Barry Hilton aka “The Cousin”
“The Cousin” has reached international status as a stand-up comedian and many agree he is one of the top comedians South Africa has ever produced. Performing his original brand of South African humour, his sell-out shows are proof of his popularity among the adoring home crowd. Used to playing all fields with huge success, Hilton is an icon and – as many other comedians may agree – a role model in the industry. As host and captain, he will show off his excellent skills at keeping the match tempo during this epic tour.
The Players:
Trevor “Delicious” Noah
Physically gifted, strong and fast paced, this youngster is one of South Africa’s leading laugh scorers and most recognized faces in the country. His rise in the comedy field has been nothing short of meteoric. No stranger to sharing the limelight with the world’s best, his impact on the local scene earned him “Best Breakthrough Comedy Act of the Year” and a nomination for the “Best Comedian of the Year” SA Comedy Award – a fitting accolade and acknowledgement for a member of the Bafunny Team that has taken South Africa by storm.
*Please note that Trevor Noah will not be performing live on-stage for the Victory Tour due to prior commitments, but will be performing via satellite link onto the Big Screens.
Nik “Bokkie” Rabinowitz
SA’s top Jewish Xhosa-speaking comic is a master at converting giggles into laughter. Despite his diminutive stature (standing at only five foot eleven), his firepower in front on goal is legendary. Dribbling from digression to diversion in the mercurial multi-lingual way that has become his trademark, SA’s stand up of the year for 2008 has established himself as a player to watch.
Loyiso “Laduuuma” Gola
A crowd favourite, Gola has had millions of viewers glued to his performances in ‘The Pure Monate Show’ and the feature film ‘Bunny Chow’ and was selected by Wall Street Journal as one of the leading lights in the next generation of South African comedians. A household name, Loyiso is adored by fans nationwide.
Marc ‘Long Shot’ Lottering
Marc ‘Long Shot’ Lottering, the player with the most recognisable hair on the circuit, started his winning streak years ago and is considered by many to be one of the hottest comics on offer from South Africa. His colourful upbringing is often reflected in his unique brand of comedy which has established him as a firm favourite with so many audiences. He has performed to ex-pats in London, Australia, New Zealand and Toronto and continues to keep fans entertained with his hugely successful DVD’s ‘From the Cape Flats with Love’, ‘Big Stakes and Slap Chips’ and ‘Hallelujah’. Successful television appearances include ‘Marc Lottering And Friends’ and ‘Will The Real Marc Lottering Please Stand Up’.
Kagiso ‘Kaka’ Ladiga
After his first stand-up performance at the Cape Town Comedy festival in Cape Town in 1998, Kagiso became an instant hit. He has represented South Africa at the ‘Just For Laughs Comedy Festival’ in Montreal, Canada and his one-man stand-up comedy shows have filled theatres across South Africa ever since.
The host and co-producer of the popular comedy brand ‘The Pure Monate Show’ and one of the stars in the Film ‘Bunny Chow’, Ladiga is a versatile player who is known for his counter attacks and scoring boot – he takes an opportunity when he sees it.
John ‘Die Voël’ Vlismas
Award-winning comedian, John Vlismas is one of South Africa’s most creative, prolific international comics. With a film project being released this year, a solo art exhibition and a new one-man show, ‘Pow!’ he is a force to be reckoned with. The only player to have received more yellow cards than birthday cards – he keeps the crowd on their toes with his comedy antics if he is not doing time in the Sin Bin.
